Center Volunteers
At Cedar Crest, our volunteers play a vital role in shaping the lives of our community! You’ll have the chance to work with students in STEAM, literacy, homework help, youth development, athletics, and discipleship. Whether you’re assisting with classroom support, leading exciting experiments, or building meaningful relationships with students, your impact will be tremendous!
Our volunteers also engage with adults and seniors, offering support in discipleship, physical fitness, and fun activities like brunch and bingo! There’s something for everyone, and every moment is a chance to create lasting memories!
Events and Projects
At Behind Every Door and our Cedar Crest Community Center, we host several amazing annual events and projects that thrive thanks to our incredible volunteers! From community outreach events to our Fall Festival and heartwarming holiday food giveaways, there’s always something exciting happening.
As a volunteer, you might greet guests, assist with registration, help set up for the festivities, or pitch in during cleanup. For projects, you’ll get hands-on with organizing, sorting, decorating, labeling, and more! Every role makes a huge impact, and we’d love for you to be a part of these special moments.
One-Time Volunteers
At Behind Every Door and Cedar Crest Community Center, we’re buzzing with activity all year long! We partner with individuals and larger groups—like churches, corporations, and small businesses—to bring amazing experiences to our community. From career fairs and inspiring guest speakers to fun-filled field days and memorable holiday parties, there’s always something to look forward to!
Our volunteers also help organize field trips, job shadowing, service learning projects, career panels, and college visits for students, opening doors to incredible opportunities. Whether you’re sharing your expertise or simply lending a helping hand, every moment makes a lasting impact!

General Volunteer Questions
Do I need any previous experience to volunteer?
No experience is necessary! We provide all the training and resources you need for any volunteer role.
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
Individual volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers 17 and under are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian or as part of a group.
Do I need to commit to a specific schedule?
It depends on the opportunity. Some roles, like tutoring, may require a regular commitment, while others, like events, allow for more flexible schedules. Check the details on each opportunity for more info.
Can I volunteer for a single event without a long-term commitment?
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers who want to join for a single day or event. Simply choose the event that interests you and sign up for that day.
What volunteer opportunities are available?

Do I need to attend orientation before volunteering?
Yes, all individual volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation session. This helps us ensure you’re fully prepared for your role and familiar with our organization’s mission.
Group Volunteer Questions
What group volunteer opportunities are available?
We offer several opportunities for groups, including one-day events, community cleanups, and large-scale service projects. Perfect for corporate teams, church/school groups, or community organizations!
How do I sign my group up to volunteer?
Group leaders can sign up by reaching out to our volunteer coordinator. Once we have your details, we’ll work with you to schedule your group’s day of service and help coordinate everything needed.
How many people can participate in a group volunteer event?
Our group events can accommodate anywhere from 5 to 100 people, depending on the event. If you have a larger group, let us know, and we’ll do our best to make accommodations.
Do group volunteers need to attend training?
For most group events, we offer a quick on-site orientation before the activity. If your group is participating in a specialized event, we may provide additional training in advance.
Volunteer Requirements and Guidelines
Do I need to undergo a background check?
Yes, volunteers who work directly with children or vulnerable populations are required to undergo a background check and complete our sexual abuse awareness training(SAAT). We will provide instructions on how to complete this as part of the orientation process.
What should I wear when volunteering?
For most events, casual, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended. If you’re volunteering for a special event that requires specific attire, we’ll let you know in advance.
What happens if I need to cancel my volunteer shift?
We understand that things come up! If you need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible so we can adjust our plans. You can cancel by emailing us at volunteer@behindeverydoor.org.
